Top Rock Songs of 2010

10 'Splinter' Sevendust
Despite the welcomed return of guitarist Clint Lowery after a six year absence, this veteran alternative metal band reported that sessions for their eighth studio record were harder than any previous album, due to various personal issues. They certainly are exorcising some demons on this track, angrily demanding that a former lover cut them completely out of their lives.

09 'Fever'Bullet for My Valentine
The title track from the 2010 album of the same name finds lead singer Matt Tuck leading his fellow heavy metal loving Welshman in hot pursuit of a girl who's got him feeling feverish. The track builds speed as his thoughts get less and less rational, to the point where he's ready to trade everything for a girl he hasn't even met.

08 'Awake and Alive' Skillet
This 2010 top rock single features an anthemic, stirring, symphonic sound. Lyrically, the Memphis-based Christian band energize their fans while reminding them it's up to them to remain awake and alive, even when others are pressuring them to feel as though things are out of their control.

07 'No One Gets Left Behind' Five Finger Death Punch
The fourth single from the Los Angeles-based hard rock band's album 'War Is the Answer' takes military leaders to task for treating human lives like pieces on a board game. What happened, they ask, to the long-standing promise to never needlessly put a soldier in harm's way?

06 'The Good Life'Three Days Grace
After nearly five years of non-stop touring, these Canadian hard rockers took a break and returned to their family lives for a quick breather. This pause clearly influenced the theme of the their album 'Life Starts Now,' particularly the second single, 'The Good Life,' which revels in the simple pleasures of home.

05 'Lights Out' Breaking Benjamin
Quite hard to tell if the protagonist from the third straight top rock song off last year's 'Dear Agony' is real or a figment of someone's imagination. The lyrics are either about a monster, determined to punish people who haven't lived up to their potential, or, possibly, the manifestation of an extremely powerful wave of self-doubt that attacks when the lights go out at night.

04 'Nightmare' Avenged Sevenfold
Lead singer M. Shadows happily welcomes an evildoer to his new digs -- either hell or a mental home, hard to tell. He gives a full rundown of the pain that awaits on the churning verses, then uses the deceptively angelic, soaring choruses to remind the villain that their arrival is, well, their own fault.

03 'Crying Like a Bitch' Godsmack
With one song, Godsmack songwriter Sully Ema manages to take a rock star AND a football hero down a few notches. Without revealing names, he's admitted the song is about diva-like behavior from another musician who Sully toured with recently. But the song's title came about after the longtime Raiders fan watched rival Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers cry after a loss.

02 'Another Way to Die' Disturbed
The anti-pollution message of Disturbed's first single from their upcoming 2010 album 'Asylum' couldn't be more timely, in light of the Gulf of Mexico's recent environmental disaster. The song's tightly coiled, urgent musical delivery gives the message even more weight. Too bad heavy metal can't plug a leaky well.

01 'Bad Company' Five Finger Death Punch
Five Finger Death Punch make their second appearance on our top rock song countdown, recording a studio version of Bad Company's self-mythologizing and self-titled anthem, after performing it in concert for years. Naturally, these war-obsessed metalheads ramp up the stakes both musically and lyrically.

Michael Jackson Doctors Won't Be Charged In Singer's Death

Seven doctors who treated the late Michael Jackson will not be charged in the singer's death. According to The Associated Press California officials said Wednesday (July 28) that they will not file charges against the doctors who were under scrutiny as part of an investigation launched by the state's Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement.

Jackson passed away in June 2009 after suffering cardiac arrest. His personal doctor Conrad Murray — who was not one of the seven doctors included in the investigation — has been charged in his death and pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter after allegedly giving the star the potent anesthetic propofol.

"I am very disappointed," said Brian Oxman, an attorney for Michael Jackson's father Joe Jackson. "The misuse of medications by Michael Jackson in the last years of his life was excessive and to fail to bring that to the public eye is ignoring reality." Oxman is serving as Joe Jackson's lawyer in a wrongful death suit against Murray.

Bureau spokesperson Christine Gasparac told the AP that one of the doctors who was under investigation was referred to the California Medical Board for prescribing drugs to one of Jackson's aliases, however, a spokesperson for the board did not confirm the referral. A spokesperson for the Drug Enforcement Agency told the AP that it has also dropped its investigation into Jackson's doctors.

Murray lawyer Ed Chernoff has maintained that the doctor did not administer a fatal dose of propofol and has suggested that either Jackson gave himself the anesthetic or another person may have supplied the late star with the dose. However, an anesthesia expert has said the possibility of Jackson administering the drug himself is unlikely.

Rick Ross Wants To Take His Music To The 'Next Level' With Dr. Dre

Rick Ross has made "Maybach Music" with Jay-Z and "Aston Martin Music" with Drake and all kinds of numbers in between with a who's who list of talent. But the Miami rap titan still has a checklist of artists he would like to work with in the future, ranging from an iconic rap producer to a legendary soul singer.

During his appearance Friday (July 23) on our inaugural "RapFix Live" broadcast, Ross revealed that he hopes to get in the studio with Dr. Dre or Frankie Beverly for his Teflon Don follow-up.

"I look forward to going to the next level, so hopefully on the next album, you might see a Dr. Dre collaboration or you might see a Frankie Beverly collaboration," Ross told Sway. "I'm a player with this."

The Bawse hasn't connected with Dre yet, but he made sure to let his wishes be known. "I'm putting it in the air right now," Ross said of the collaboration.

Next up, Ross will start production on the video for "Live Fast, Die Young," his single with Kanye West. The Def Jam star told MTV News earlier this week that he secured Hype Williams as the director of the clip, after his plans for Spike Lee to helm the shoot fell through.

"Yeah, the homie Yeezy, we decided on Hype Williams. Hype Williams will direct 'Live Fast, Die Young,' " he revealed. "Hit me up on Twitter @rickyrozay, and the reason I say that, I tweeted a picture of me and the homie Spike Lee. He came to my birthday party. I was brainstorming, like, 'We need that different vibe.' I tweeted a picture with me and the homie Spike. Ultimately, Hype will direct it. But look for Spike to do a Rozay video. I'mma be the first since [Public Enemy's] 'Fight the Power' and the other great [videos he directed back in the day]."

Katy Perry's new album will smell like marshmallows

Yes, Katy Perry's new album will smell like marshmallows.

No lie. Katy Perry's album third album (and second since her sexy secular reinvention) will be called Teenage Dream and will smell like marshmallows.

We can't stress this enough.

The twelve-track album's cover features the singer nude and wrapped in a cloud of cotton candy, much like her 'California Gurls' clip.

A press release specifies that a treatment on the packaging will make it smell like cotton candy/marshmallows. Basically, vanilla-y sugar.

The album has had an incredible start with first single 'California Gurls', featuring Snoop Dogg, topping the charts the world over.

Teenage Dream will come out on August 27. It will smell like marshmallows.

Madonna has been served with a noise abatement notice for a karaoke party at her London home

The 'Celebration' singer faces a fine of up to £5,000 after her staff threw a loud party in the exclusive Marylebone area of the UK capital, while Madonna was away.

The 51-year-old pop superstar is reportedly 'furious' about being given the official warning, which came about after angry neighbours complained to Westminster Council, and has been threatened with the huge fine should it happen again.

A friend of the singer said: "Madonna likes a good party like anyone else but she is respectful of her neighbours and doesn't like to upset anyone. She was absolutely furious when she found out."

After the complaints were lodged, officers turned up shortly after 2pm on the Sunday afternoon, spoke to partygoers through the intercom and asked them to reduce the noise.

They were refused entry to the building and were told Madonna, 51, was away.

A spokesperson for the council said: "In order to deal with the matter, a notice was served by posting it through the box at the premises. The notice was addressed to the owner or occupier at the address ordering that the noise be stopped - which it was. Any further offence could see Madonna landed with a £5,000 fine."

Madonna uses the lavish £7 million property as a family home and often stays there with her children, daughter Lourdes, 13, son Rocco, nine, and adopted kids Mercy, five, and David, four.

Eminem continues to dominate charts

Eminem's 'Recovery' album is still slaying all the competition a month after its release.

The album has been an unexpected worldwide smash hit, debuting at the top of the charts in the US, the UK, Canada, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Switzerland, New Zealand and Australia.

The amazing thing is, four weeks after its release, it remains at the top of the US charts with sales that triple the album in the number two slot.

Recovery sold 194, 072 copies last week according to SoundScan. The number two album, Korn's comeback Korn III: Remember Who You Are selling a measly 61,704 copies in its debut week.

The album has sold over one and a half million copies in a month, and has already gone platinum in the US, Switzerland and Australia.

Pundits have speculated exactly why Recovery has been so huge, considering Relapse was a relative flop for a superstar like Em.

Most are attributing it to mainstream media appearances, such as his self-deprecating Letterman slot, his BET Awards performance, and cameos on The Soup, E!, and at press conferences with Usher, will.i.am and Rihanna.

Recovery was the fifth highest-selling album of 2010 before this most recent week, and there's little doubt that by the end of the year it will hit the top slot there too.
